Anything that makes your life easier and your skin healthier gets four stars around here. That’s why we like the Clarisonic cleansing brushes. The best part: they’re programmed to operate for one full minute, which is the amount of time required to break down sebum, which Dr. Obagi calls “the enemy of healthy skin”.
A lot of ZO users like to use the Clarisonic with our Hydrating Cleanser. Used in combination, the two get 5 or 6 X as much dirt, cosmetics and oils off of your skin. For fighting acne, blackheads, whiteheads and large pores, that’s powerful.
The Clarisonic is pricey–about $150-$225. If you want to save some money–make it a habit to cleanse with your fingertips for one full minute–AM and PM. Rub your face vigorously–it stimulates the skin cells.
If sebum and dirt are the enemy of healthy skin, Clarisonic (or a self-timer) and our Hydrating Cleanser may very well be your best friends.

Well, I am so glad to finally have what I have suscepted all along and wondered about ( was it just me?) confirmed by THE name in skin care that I do trust and who’s opinion I hold in such high regard. It is that instrument and I am glad I pulled the plug on it months ago!
After the initial investing in one, per my aesthetician’s recommendation and using it as instructed I found my face becoming increasing sensitive and irritated. I was using Obagi NuDerm but I had used the products before and my skin did not burn after I applied the Healthy Skin Protective Sunscreen. I even started using the delicate brush head instead of the sensitive to see if that made any difference.
After discovering ZO Skin Health and with beginning NuDerm Maintenance, I stared using the Exfoliating Polish. Not only did I prefer this but after deciding to back away from the other my skin had become less sensitive and reactive.
Things were back to normal and it makes perfect sense. I’ve considered selling it on Ebay, my husband loves to get rid of clutter…
Thank you so much Dr. Obagi!
I obviously totally misread Dr.Obagi’s opinion of the Clarisonic facial cleasnser and at least I will hand on to mine, which I will use alternately with the Exfoliating Polish.
I still maintain that I need to customize the amount and timing of the Clarisonic’s use to suit my own skin type.
I will commend it for it’s thorough cleansing of makeup and the exfoliating properties it masters cleanly in a minute’s time, especially if you are experiencing any flaking.
Apologetically,
Anne
I am going to my plastic surgeon this summer for an Obagi Blue Peel. How long do you recommend that I use the NuDerm System exclusively (without mixing any other product) before I have the peel performed?
Hello Sharmon,
The plastic surgeon that is performing the peel should recommend for how long before and after you will use the Obagi Nu-Derm system. In general, it is recommended that you use the program DAILY including the Tretinoin 0.1% cream for ONE month (if you have previously used the system, and 3 months if it is your first time) before having a Blue Peel. You stop the Tretinoin & Blender step about 4 days prior to the peel. The creams are resumed as soon as you are done peeling, for one month to prevent pigmentation changes and ensure proper healing. Again, check with your own doctor first that is performing the peel, because he or she may have their own protocol.

There are so many different models of the Clarisonics. Is there one better/more powerful than another? I’m really considering getting one of these to see if it would help with my acne.
Thanks so much!
Cheryl,
I’ve had my Clarisonic for almost 5 years. I was gifted it by my daughter who thought it was the perfect item for me who is interested in skin care. It’s a regular unit, has a timer if you want to change the settings, it came with 2 brush heads and a Clarisonic cleanser (which I promptly threw away since I only use Obagi). I use it once a day in the evening with either the Obagi Gentle Cleanser or the ZO hydrating cleaser. I also have found that the brush for sensitive skin works better for me. As for powerful, I think all the units are the same. Check around for good prices. Many websites offer free s&h, even a discount. My Clarisonic works as well after 5 years of constant use as it did on Day 1. I find that not only is my skin clean, but my ZO products seem to work much better on the clean face.I clean my brush weekly in a solution of 1/2 peroxide/1/2 water and change the brush about every 4 months.
